This course lectures, trains & provides ample supervised practice opportunities to optimally utilise basic point of care emergency ultrasound in everyday clinical practice.

Brief Course Overview

Practical hands on course where after the students will be trained in the following

  • Recognizing basic ultrasound anatomy
  • Understanding basic physics and practical use of the ultrasound machine (knobology)
  • Conjuring the appropriate ultrasound images applicable to the curriculum
  • Applying the ultrasound findings to the correct decision and treatment protocols

Medical doctors of all levels and specialties (surgeons, anaesthetists, orthopaedic surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, general physicians, paediatricians, general and family medicine practitioners, remote medical doctors & paramedics). Anyone who is interested in using point of care ultrasound in his or her clinical practice.

  • Extended FAST  – Free Fluid & Pneumothorax
  • Aorta
  • Echo in Life Support (ELS; FEER; FEEL) – Cardiac Views  & IVC view
  • Venous Ultrasound – Vascular Access & DVT

Experience: 9 years practicing as an Emergency Medicine consultant in United Kingdom & private practice in South Africa. 3 Years practicing & providing training in emergency point of care ultrasound.
