Emergency Medicine Radiology (EMRAD)

This course provides delegates with knowledge on the interpretation and utilization of emergency radiological modalities focusing on the principles of various radiological techniques including Xray, CT, US and MRI and the relevant application to clinical emergencies.

Brief Course Overview

This course is aimed at persons working within Emergency Centers. It deals with Radiological Investigations (excluding Ultrasound) used for diagnosing Emergency Conditions. These will be covered through a series of lectures followed by practical stations to give candidates opportunities to practice interpretation.

Interpretation of different radiological modalities can be very difficult, even more so if an important clinical decision needs to be made based on the result.

This course will cover a vast range of imaging interpretation to assist in the expediation of decision making and to improve confidence in radiological diagnosis.

  • Interpretation of Xrays (including CXR, Abdo, extremity and skull/facial Xrays etc.)

Clinical Director Profile

Dr Melanie Stander is an Emergency Medicine Physician looking after emergency care in the Metro East division and works for the Division of Emergency Medicine, Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch.  She has a special interest in emergency ultrasound and procedural sedation.
